The HSE Analytics Team leads projects at both the system (district, cross-school) and student levels to provide teachers and administrators with timely data needed to make the best decisions to promote whole-child success.

The HSE Analytics Team leads HSE’s efforts in the collection, analysis, and application of data in order to help each HSE student thrive and to help HSE Schools more forward as a 21st century learning organization.

Foundational to our work are four principles established by the Data Quality Campaign, an non-profit organization devoted to best practices in education data policy and use:

Measuring What We Value

HSE Schools believes that each student possesses a unique profile of knowledge, skills, talents, interests, experiences and more. In addition, we know educational research demonstrates that standardized tests are only a very narrow measure of student achievement. HSE’s Analytics Team is currently working with district teams and outside stakeholders to identify key student competencies (in addition to content knowledge and fundamental skills) that reflect the scope of our values.

 

As student profiles broaden to include measures of malleable competencies, community learning experiences, and student self-assessments – in addition to test scores and other traditional measures – educators will be better equipped to meet individual needs. Learners will have more complete information to understand who they are as individuals and, ultimately, to make decisions for their futures. Our current draft of learning competencies is depicted in the image below.

In addition, a Superintendent’s Analytics Committee, composed of internal and external stakeholders, meets monthly, offering diverse community perspectives to inform the work. Sectors represented include government, early learning, higher education, corporate, parent, and non-profit, as well as students, teachers, and administrators.
 
The Chief Analytics Officer reports directly to the Superintendent.
