Non-Resident Transfer

Apply to HSE Schools 2026-2027

Hamilton Southeastern Schools is pleased to announce that families living outside the district’s boundaries will have the opportunity to apply for non-resident transfer. This decision, approved by the Board of School Trustees, opens the door for K-12 students to join one of Indiana’s top-performing districts.

Applications for non-resident transfers will follow a process based on eligibility criteria and school/grade level capacity. Applications are now open!

PLEASE NOTE: There is NO tuition/cost for non-resident students to attend HSE Schools.

Eligibility Criteria and Conditions

Attendance and Discipline

Students must meet the following: 

  • Reside in Indiana. 
  • Have no suspensions exceeding 10 days or expulsions within the previous 12 months. 
  • Have not been suspended or expelled within the previous 12 months for: 
    • Possession of a firearm, deadly weapon, or destructive device. 
    • Causing physical injury to a student, school employee, or visitor. 
    • Violating a drug or alcohol policy. 
  • Demonstrate a history of consistent attendance. 
  • Be in good standing. 

Transportation

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation for approved transfers. 

  • Timely and safe transportation is mandatory; violations may result in revocation of the transfer agreement. 

Extracurricular Activities

  • Transfer students must comply with all school district and school rules. 

  • Eligibility guidelines for extracurricular activities will be available through the school pending application approval. Parents/guardians are encouraged to thoroughly review these guidelines. 

Revocation

  • Transfer agreements may be revoked for violations of terms, including issues with behavior, attendance, or academics. 

  • Serious incidents may result in immediate revocation without prior notice. 
  • Revocations will be provided in writing and will render the student ineligible for future transfers. 

Appeals

  • Transfer decisions, including approvals, denials, and revocations, are final and cannot be appealed. 

Application Process

Apply
Complete the application and submit all required documents by April 17, 2026, for priority consideration. Incomplete applications cannot be processed. Non-resident applications will be accepted until January 15, 2027.

Rolling Admission
If capacity is not reached by April 17, the district will begin reviewing applications submitted after April 17 on a first-come, first-served basis, determined by the submission timestamp. Non-resident transfer applications will not be accepted after January 15, 2027.

Application Approval
Families who apply between February 27 and April 17 will be notified of their status on or before May 8. Families who apply after April 17 will be notified in a timely manner. 

Enroll
If your application is approved, you will receive directions on how to enroll.

Specifications

Capacity
Non-resident transfers will be accepted until capacity is reached at selected schools and grade levels, as determined by the district, until January 15, 2027.

Waitlist
Applicants not selected due to capacity limits will be placed on a waitlist and notified as seats become available.

Year-to-Year
Non-resident students approved must remain in good standing and submit a Transfer Renewal Form each year.

Kindergarten
To apply for non-resident placement in kindergarten, children must be five (5) years old on or before August 1, 2026. Non-resident transfer students are not eligible for early entrance. Please note if you are applying for a kindergarten student you do not need the school documents listed below.

School/Grade Vacancies

The following schools are closed due to capacity: Deer Creek Elementary, Geist Elementary, Southeastern Elementary, Thorpe Creek Elementary, Fall Creek Intermediate, Fall Creek Junior High, and Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate-Junior High.

Please read the application carefully and ensure you have all the required documents* before applying. The application process will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and must be finished once started. We recommend that you have electronic copies of your documents ready before starting.

  • Past 12 months of discipline history
  • Past 12 months of attendance history
  • Past 12 months of grades
  • IEP or 504 Plan (if applicable)
*Please note if you are applying for a kindergarten student, you do not need the above documentation.
