Educational Supports

High ability services in Hamilton Southeastern Schools are designed to meet the unique needs of K-6 students who have shown exceptional achievement or aptitude. Identification is in accordance with Indiana Department of Education requirements.  High ability students present a continuum of needs and therefore our programming has a responsive design, offered in language arts and/or math.  The goal of HSE high ability services is to infuse greater depth, challenge, and acceleration into instruction, while emphasizing critical and creative thinking.

Hamilton Southeastern Schools employs a staff of ENL Collaborative Teachers and Instructional Assistants to work with our language learners. Students that qualify for our ENL program will receive an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP).  This ILP will be based on the language level of the student and will indicate accommodations necessary for the student.  The ENL Collaborative Teacher will work closely with all classroom and subject area teachers in order to support both the language learner and the teacher to foster success in the classroom. Our ENL Collaborative Teachers focus on Co-Teaching in order to support students in the classroom.  The ENL Collaborative Teachers will also meet with students individually and in small groups as needed.

Hamilton Southeastern Schools provides a full continuum of special education services for our students. Special education includes specially designed instruction to meet a student’s unique educational needs and related services to support a student’s educational program. The services range from support for students placed in general education classroom settings to self-contained specialized programs for students whose educational needs require more intensive services and support.

FOCUS provides educational services for exceptional learners who need extra support with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The setting provides a smaller classroom setting and lower student-to-teacher ratios to create opportunities to increase positive social skills and coping strategies. FOCUS is a safe and positive learning environment for students who may not experience success in the general education setting.

HSE’s preschool continues to strive to be a positive learning environment by requiring that all teachers are licensed in both general and special education. There are no requirements to enroll besides being 3 years or older, and not yet eligible for kindergarten. This gives all young learners the ability to learn and interact with each other in a way that develops their social and emotional intelligence.
