HSE21 Instructional Framework
HSE Schools is committed to providing each student with learning experiences that are deep and relevant, and which encourage the development of his/her unique identity. HSE21 is the term which describes our teaching & learning dispositions and our instructional framework.
HSE21 Mission
The mission of HSE21 is to equip students with deep learning, unique skills, and new literacies they will need to contribute positively in their communities and thrive as individuals in the 21st century global economy.
Shared Beliefs
- Children deserve to be educated in nurturing environments reflective of their developmental stages which respect what is known about learning science and the learning process.
- Deep learning occurs when students engage higher-order cognitive skills to construct long term understanding. Learning involves the linking of known concepts to new ideas, so that new understanding is able to be applied in both familiar and new contexts.
- Educating the whole child includes consideration of the emotional, physical, behavioral, and academic aspects of each individual that lead to a healthy, safe, engaged, supportive, and challenging learning environment.
- Empowered learners thrive. Learners are empowered as they are encouraged to develop agency by being given opportunities for voice and choice in their learning.
The HSE21 Best Practice Model (to the right) outlines the dispositions and practices that are emphasized in all Hamilton Southeastern learning environments.
