Appeal Process

NWEA results for all students in grades K‐6 will be reviewed each year by a central office team to identify students functioning at the 99th percentile for grades kindergarten and 1 and between the 95th and 99th percentiles for grades 2 through 6 in either math or language arts.

Cognitive potential is evaluated in grades K, 2, and 5 for all students not already identified as eligible for high ability services.

Students in grades K, 2, and 5 who fall within the standard error of measure are also considered for services through use of the SIGS tool.

This multi-faceted approach to  eliminates the need for any individual requests from families for additional testing and allows for equal opportunities for all students to be considered.

A family may provide evidence that suggests a different conclusion than what was determined through the identification process. Classroom grades, reading levels, and ILEARN results are not sufficient evidence for placement.

To pursue an appeal, the rationale and any accompanying evidence must be submitted with a cover letter to the Superintendent.
