Taste of HSE
This school year, Hamilton Southeastern Schools is celebrating student creativity, innovation, and flavor through a series of exciting culinary challenges! Students of all grade levels are invited to compete within their age group and showcase their cooking skills. The competition kicks off this September with our intermediate and junior high schools. Stay tuned for more details on opportunities for other grade levels!

Calling all young chefs in third and fourth grade! Think you’ve got what it takes to create a delicious, healthy breakfast entree? Submit your best recipe, whether it’s an original creation or your twist on a classic. Check out the criteria below and show us what you’ve got!
- Recipes must contain a whole grain
- Recipes must allow for 20 servings
- Bonus points will be awarded for the use of the following ingredients
- avocado
- cottage cheese
- seeds (flax, chia, pumpkin, or sunflower)
- Recipes will be judged based on the following:
- healthy attributes
- appearance/plate presentation
- use of ingredients
- creativity
- taste
- judges presentation
- Recipes must be typed and uploaded to the submission form as a PDF or dropped off at your school's front office by January 23rd!
- Students must be available for a competition on Wednesday, February 18, from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
- The 13 finalists will be notified on January 30th.

HSE High School
Grades 9-12
Calling all high school chefs! The patty is set — the creativity is up to you. Build the ultimate burger/sandwich using a Ford’s Garage base and your own signature seasonings, sauces, and toppings. Review the criteria below and bring your best flavor ideas to the table!
- Sandwiches will utilize a Ford's Garage burger patty (a chicken sandwich or black bean burger can be substituted)
- Recipe should yield 20 servings
- Recipe may include
- Seasoning for meat
- Cheese
- Signature Sauce (no more than 2)
- Toppings (no more than 4)
- Five students from each high school will compete on March 18th from 4:30-7 p.m. at HSE High School
- The finalists from each school will then compete for the win on April 14th from 5-7 p.m. at Ford's Garage.
- The two students will arrive by 4 p.m. and will work with the Ford's Garage chef.
- Samples will be distributed among the restaurant's guests. Students will walk around to talk and promote their creation.
- Guests will use a QR code to vote for the best sandwich
- The winner will have their picture displayed at the restaurant!
