Background Checks

A SafeVisitor background check is required for anyone who visits any Hamilton Southeastern school building, including family members of students. Examples of activities in the schools where visitors will need a completed SafeVisitor background check are:

Classroom Volunteers/Helpers/Room Parents
Field Trip Chaperones
Overnight Field Trips (require extensive background checks, please contact schools directly)

A visitor/volunteer background check through SafeVisitor is valid for three years at any Hamilton Southeastern school. The cost for the background check is $12.95 and takes 5-7 business days to process. The SafeVisitor national screening process checks the following:

National Criminal Database
National Sex Offender Registry
Statewide Criminal
County Criminal
Federal Criminal Courts

How To Obtain Your SafeVisitor Badge

The SafeVisitor background check must be completed on a computer—not a tablet or mobile device.

As part of the process, you will be prompted to watch an anti-bullying training webinar (approximately 25 minutes). After viewing, you must complete the electronic acknowledgment to proceed with the criminal history application. Then, finish entering the remaining required information.

If you have completed a background check for HSE Schools in the past and are unsure whether it has expired, please contact Brandy Crawford at bcrawford@hse.k12.in.us. Be sure to include your full name and date of birth in your inquiry.

If your background check has expired, you will need to visit the SafeVisitor website to begin the process again.

Once your background check is approved, watch for a badge notification email from info@safevisitorsolutions.com. Your badge will be attached as a PDF. You may print it, save it to your phone, or download the SafeVisitor mobile app. A photo will be taken and added during your first visit to any school.
