HSE Superintendent Search

The Hamilton Southeastern School District has undertaken a search for our new superintendent. The education executive search firm, BWP & Associates, has been hired to assist in finding the best candidate to serve the citizens of Hamilton Southeastern.  This website was created to share that process with you. On Feb. 11, a slate of six top superintendent candidates were presented to the school board. Interviews were held via Zoom on Feb. 15 and Feb. 17.

According to B.W.P. & Associates, the search firm hired by HSE, more than 50 candidates either contacted or expressed interest in the position. A total of 25 applied.
Of the applicants, candidates came from seven states and 12 were current superintendents, eight were assistant or deputy superintendents, two were principals and three were in other roles.
From the pool of 25 applicants, B.W.P. narrowed it down to 12 candidates for initial interviews with the search firm. The top six candidate were selected to do virtual interviews with the board.
The button to the left identified qualities in which the board desires in the new superintendent. This list was created after consulting with staff, students and members of the community.
  • A visionary leader and strategic thinker who is able to lead the Board, School Corporation, and the community in ensuring equity, academic growth, high standards and providing optimal learning for all students through his or her expertise, passion, and knowledge of teaching and learning;
  • A person who will incorporate equity, diversity, and inclusivity as part of the landscape of the overall wellbeing of students, staff, and the community;
  • A person who will communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders both in oral and in written form to ensure that all aspects of the School Corporation’s communication are effective and timely;
  • A strong leader with integrity, compassion, honesty, fairness  who  makes decisions and executes them with courage and has the ability to unite the school’s overall leadership team;
  • A skilled motivator and collaborator who can lead the Board, the staff, and the community;
  • An experienced leader who will be highly visible in the schools and the community;
  • A student-centered leader with exceptional human relations skills, the proven ability to inspire people to the highest levels of achievement and accountability, and spread the good news of the successes of HSE;
  • A problem solver who is a capable of identifying issues, rendering suggestions for improvement, making tough decisions, and executes effectively;
  • A leader with high EQ (Emotional Intelligence) who shows appreciation to all staff for their efforts in providing students the opportunities for success;
  • A consensus builder and team builder who is approachable, listens to all voices, and understands and appreciates different points of views;
  • A person who understands the uniqueness and the landscape of a complex suburban community with multiple political agendas and can work for consensus;
  • A person who understands Indiana school finance, collaborates on seeking additional resources, and can lead a community through its next referendum.
