Hamilton Southeastern Schools is preparing to welcome the Class of 2032 this fall. Kindergarten enrollment for the 2019-20 school year is now open.
The leadership of HSE Schools continues to monitor the legislative work around Early Entrance to Kindergarten. The Early Entrance Appeal process permits students to attend with a birthdate between August 2 and September 1. Last year, state lawmakers made a change that would not permit school districts to count students in the funding formula with a birthdate that fell after August 1.
"The lateness of the decision and the confusion surrounding the decision led district administrators to absorb the cost of those students so they could still attend kindergarten," said Dr. Jan Combs, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. "Continuing on the course of absorbing the costs is not a viable option long-term."
Lawmakers have assured school leaders that they plan to revisit this decision and make revisions as deemed appropriate. Combs says families are welcome to submit the paperwork for Early Entrance, but if the legislation is not changed HSE Schools will not be able to accept Early Entrance to Kindergarten students.
"Please continue to encourage your state representative to revisit their decision and make the changes needed to fund students with a birthday that falls between August 2 and September 1," adds Combs.
HSE Schools will publish any updates concerning this matter when more information is released.
