March Is Disability Awareness Month

Across the country, the month of March has been designated as National Disability Awareness Month.  Hamilton Southeastern Schools will offer various programs and opportunities for the public to learn more information.

This year's theme, Empowering Fishers: Ask How, will empower the community to learn more about the accommodations for those with disabilities, share the value of those with physical and intellectual disabilities in the workplace, and celebrate the talents and contributions of those with disabilities.  

Here are a list of the calendar of events which have been planned for March:

Friday, March 1st, Fishers City Hall Auditorium (8:30AM to 10:00AM) - Fishers 2019 Disability Awareness Month Kick Off featuring Noah Malone and Jordan Dickey. Fishers Paralympian Athletes share their stories of their achievements and contributions to the Fishers community. Click Here for more information.

Thursday, March 7th, Conner Prairie Interactive History Park (8:30AM to 10:30AM) - Coffee Talk: Think Differently, Shifting the Perspective: An Interactive Conversation About Fear, Stigma and Assumptions. Click Here for more information

Friday, March 8th, Conner Prairie Interactive History Park (6:00PM to 9:00PM) - Visual and Performing Arts Reception: A Celebration of the Arts and community Unity. Click Here for more information.

Thursday, March 14th, Hamilton Southeastern High School (6:00PM to 7:30PM) - 2019 Hamilton County Transition Fair - A Resources Fair for Life's Transitions. Click Here for more information.

Tuesday, March 19th, Fishers City Hall (8:30AM to 10:30AM) - "My Point of View Day" - Mayor's Breakfast - discussion with the disability community, invitation only event.  Click Here for more information.

Tuesday, March 19th and Wednesday, March 20th , Ignite Studio, HEPL Library (6:00PM to 7:00PM, both nights) - Best Buddies Night. 

Saturday, March 23rd, Fishers High School, Door #6 (2:00PM - 5:00PM) - City of Fishers Adaptive Sports Showcase, Celebrating Athletes and Friendship. Click Here for more information. 

Tuesday, March 26th, Fishers High School Auditorium (6:30PM - 7:45PM) - Movie Showing of "Intelligent Lives" presented by the Ball State University Department of English Immersive Learning course called Disability Representation in Children's and Young Adult Literature.  Click Here for more information.

Exceptional Learners Program at HSE

Hamilton Southeastern Schools provides a full continuum of special education services for our students. Special education includes specially-designed instruction to meet a student’s unique educational needs and related services to support a student’s educational program. The services range from support for students placed in general education classroom settings to self-contained specialized programs for students whose educational needs require more intensive services and support.
