Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program
FISHERS, IN: Officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of over 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the contest for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly 28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for the scholarship, participants must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning a Merit Scholar title.

To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a thorough scholarship application. This application includes academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed, and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT score that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. From over 16,000 Semifinalists, more than 15,00 are expected to move onto the Finalist level. They will be notified in February of this honor.
National Merit Scholarship winner of 2023 will begin to be announced in April and ending in July. These scholarship recipients will join nearly 368,000 other distinguished young students who have earned the Merit Scholar title.
