Club Sponsor Patty Kulesavage with Project H.O.P.E. hand sanitizer
Students Spread Hope at Hamilton Southeastern High School

August 30, 2019

As the school year starts up again, students at Hamilton Southeastern High School are taking advantage of the opportunity to lend a hand to their community, spreading positive force through a club called Project H.O.P.E

Established by students just 3 years ago, Project H.O.P.E. stands for “Helping Others Prosper Everyday.” It is a community-wide service project organization that focuses on maintaining a helpful and positive environment for families in and around Hamilton Southeastern High School. While the club was initially funded by donations from local business leaders, Project H.O.P.E. now fundraises every winter, selling candygrams during the holidays and putting the money towards their service projects.

Project H.O.P.E. has provided students in Hamilton Southeastern High School with free laundry services – a washer, a dryer, and detergent – and regularly-placed hand sanitizer stations. Along with these, Project H.O.P.E. was able to lend its time and energy to help fix a local family’s car, as well as provide them with rent, furniture, and supplies for their new house. “Every little bit helps.” says Mrs. Patty Kulesavage, the club’s sponsor. “If we could be known as a positive force in Hamilton Southeastern High School, that would be awesome.”

As the school year progresses, they will continue to serve their community through activities such as sponsoring local families for Christmas and assembling Thanksgiving meal baskets for the holidays.

Through Project H.O.P.E., students are able to provide widespread services and supplies to those in need. By planning and carrying out events for the community, the students themselves learn unique, valuable life lessons. While students gain leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, they also get to witness firsthand the impact that one good deed can have on a community.

There are many other organizations in the district that promote good deeds like Project H.O.P.E. include Students In Action at Fishers High School, We the Change at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate/Junior High, and the Bring Change to Mind club just to name a few.
