Board of School Trustees Approves New School Start Times for 2021-22

November 12, 2020

The recommendation follows a months-long study by administrators, teachers and parents. ORTAC (Operation Right Time Advisory Committee) began meeting last April and was tasked with closely examining the feasibility of shifting school start times for the 2021-22 school year to align with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Medical Association (AMA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In addition, ORTAC sub-committees collected information to help school board members understand the research surrounding the topic, learn from the experiences of other school districts and consider relevant factors related to the unique context of the Hamilton Southeastern School District. The start times for School Year 2021-22 are as follows:

Elementary                              7:40 a.m. – 2:10 p.m.

High School                            8:20 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.

Intermediate/Jr. High             9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The final recommendation can be found here.

Please be on the lookout for additional information on this change in the future.
