Substitute Teacher Information


Thank you for your interest in being a substitute teacher for Hamilton Southeastern Schools!  The pay for substitute teachers is $80 per day; substitute instructional assistants are paid $70 per day; permanent substitute teachers are paid $90 per day. To apply for a substitute teaching position, the following steps must be followed. 

Step 1

Apply on AppliTrack! - You will find the option of Substitute Teacher under the Position Desired tab of the application. E-mail addresses are REQUIRED on references on the application.

Step 2

If you have not completed a background check with Hamilton Southeastern Schools within the past five years, you will need to submit and pay for a full background check.  If you have completed a background check for volunteering in our schools, this is not sufficient for employment.
 
The Indiana Department of Child Services check is a part of this background check.  After you complete the information through Safe Hiring Solutions, you will receive two e-mails from KidTraks@dcs.in.gov within a few days.  One e-mail will contain a password to log in, and the other will contain the link to log in using that password.  It is very important that you complete this process ASAP.  If you did not receive the e-mails, please check your junk or spam e-mails.

Safe Hiring Solutions Background Check

Step 3

Upon satisfactory completion of Steps 1 and 2, we will send employment forms to you electronically via email. Please complete and submit these forms back electronically.

Step 4

Upon completion of Step 3, we will invite you to a Sub Orientation Meeting at the Administration Office. Please bring to the meeting:

One of the following:
 
  • Unexpired passport, or
  • Unexpired driver’s license along with either Social Security card or birth certificate,
 
AND the items listed below:
 
  • Copy of your current State of Indiana teacher's license or State of Indiana substitute teacher's permit (if you have one)*,
  • Voided check or direct-deposit letter from bank, and
  • Copy of college transcripts, college degree or teacher’s license (to verify 30 hours of college credit).

*A current State of Indiana teacher's license or State of Indiana substitute teacher's permit is required to be a substitute teacher. If you do not have a current Indiana teacher's license or substitute teacher's permit, you can apply online for a permit with the Indiana Department of Education at https://www.doe.in.gov/licensing

Step 5

After all of the above steps have been completed, we will send you your Absence Management log-in information so you can start to sub for HSE Schools! If you just applied for a substitute permit, we will verify your permit with the DOE after all of the above steps have been completed, and upon receipt of your permit from you, we will send you your log-in information.
