Application Process for Substitute Teachers


The pay for substitute teachers is $80 per day; substitute instructional assistants are paid $70 per day; permanent substitute teachers are paid $90 per day. To apply for a substitute teaching position, the following steps must be followed. FYI: Steps 1 and 2 MUST be completed before an interview can be scheduled.

Step 1


Apply on AppliTrack! - You must have a completed application on file before you are interviewed.  E-mail addresses are REQUIRED on references on application.

Step 2


As part of the hiring process, you will require a background check if you have not paid for one with Hamilton Southeastern Schools within the past 5 years. If you have completed a background check for volunteering in our schools, this is not sufficient for employment. Please click the link to begin the employment background check process.

YOU MUST INTERVIEW WITHIN 30 DAYS OF YOUR BACKGROUND CHECK BEING COMPLETED. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

Step 3


We will contact you upon a favorable background check to schedule an appointment for you to interview with Human Resources. At the time of your scheduled appointment, please bring the following:

To verify at least 30 hours of college credit:
  • Original official college transcripts,
  • Copy of college degree, or
  • Teacher's license

In addition, please provide:

One of the following:
  • Unexpired passport, or
  • Unexpired driver’s license along with either Social Security card or birth certificate
  • Copy of a current State of Indiana teacher's license or State of Indiana substitute teacher's permit
  • Voided check to attach to direct-deposit form

AFTER YOUR INTERVIEW


If you do not have a current Indiana teacher's license or substitute teacher's permit, you can apply online for a permit with the Indiana Department of Education AFTER YOUR INTERVIEW ONLY at https://www.doe.in.gov/licensing. Start by creating a profile for your application for a Sub Teaching Permit.

Step 4


Upon completion of Steps 1, 2 and 3, we will send your employment forms to you electronically via email.
